Rules for Using the Roads theory test questions
Lane discipline, junctions, roundabouts and box junctions — sharing the road in order. Practise 108 questions free, each with the correct answer and a plain-English explanation mapped to the Highway Code.
What you need to know
- On a roundabout, give way to traffic from your right unless signs say otherwise.
- Don't enter a box junction unless your exit is clear (except turning right).
- Keep left unless overtaking; return to the left when it's safe.
Sample question
What should you NOT do when overtaking sheep on a country lane?
- Drive slowly until you are fully clear.
- Prepare to stop if instructed to do so.
- Beep your horn to alert farmers to your presence.
- Keep a good distance from the animals.
Why
In this situation, you should leave the sheep and farmers as much room as possible. Be prepared to come to a halt if you are asked to do so. Do not sound your horn because it could cause the sheep distress.
Common mistake
Entering a yellow box junction when the exit is blocked — only the right-turn exception applies.
Exam tip
For roundabouts, rehearse lane choice by exit (left-early, right-inside) before the test.
