Rules for Road Works theory test questions
Navigating roadworks and contraflows safely — reduced lanes, lower limits and workers nearby. Practise 10 questions free, each with the correct answer and a plain-English explanation mapped to the Highway Code.
What you need to know
- Obey temporary speed limits and signs — they're legally enforceable.
- Merge in turn where lanes close; don't race to the front aggressively.
- Watch for narrow lanes, workers and average-speed cameras.
Sample question
Why are LRT systems, trams or 'metros', considered environmentally friendly?
- They use electric power and don't produce emissions
- They are faster
- They are fixed in the route they follow
- They operate completely separately from other traffic
Why
Try to help lessen pollution by using your car only when it's necessary. You should use public transport whenever you can. Light rapid transit (LRT) systems, trams or 'metros' are being introduced in some cities and large towns to provide more efficient public transport which is also environmentally friendly as it uses electric power.
Common mistake
Ignoring temporary limits because the road 'looks clear' — they still carry penalties.
Exam tip
Treat every roadworks question as 'slow down, follow the signs, merge in turn'.
